McDevitt Students Get 'Zip'

HARRISBURG, PA - Through the efforts and coordination of two alumni, the Bishop McDevitt High School Computer Lab has been outfitted with portable Zip storage. Until now, students were limited to working only in the computer lab, since transportation of large project files was nearly impossible using floppy disks that have limited capacity. With this new equipment, students will now be able to save a project to a 100 Mb Zip disk and take it with them, allowing them to work at home, the library, or any other computer with a Zip drive. McDevitt received the donation of 30 USB External Zip drives, 6 ATAPI Internal Zip Drives and 120 Zip disks, valued at nearly $6000, after months of talks between the local businessmen and Iomega Corporation.

Roughly ninety-six percent of the student population takes at least one course from the Business and Technology Department and more than forty-five percent of the students frequent the computer lab on a weekly basis. The Zip drives will be used for storage in graphic design, web page creation, power point presentations, audio & video editing, and photographic manipulation.
